Ellie Goulding: I Want To Be Known For My Art, Not My Boyfriend

British singing star Ellie Goulding seems to constantly be in the news these days. Goulding claims Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran amongst her closest friends, and Ellie is in a long-term relationship with McBusted star Dougie Poynter. Ellie was widely praised for a spellbinding performance at last weekend’s British Summertime concert in London’s Hyde park. Ellie is also gaining a reputation as someone who is not afraid to speak her mind.

In recent weeks, Goulding has spoken out against a London council for implementing controversial policies that Ellie believes unfairly penalizes homeless people. Goulding has also added her voice to those of other female artists who have criticized misogyny in the media industry.

Last night, Goulding played an exclusive concert in London’s St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. The hotel chain is celebrating a global marketing deal with Universal Music that will see stars like Goulding perform concerts in Marriott group hotels across all five continents. According to Event Magazine, Ellie stepped up to the plate at the last moment to replace Jessie J who was scheduled to play the at the launch party but fell ill.

Prior to the show, Goulding was interviewed by Refinery 29 and true to form, Ellie pulled no punches when she was asked about the sort of questions that she hates to be asked. Ellie admitted that, whilst she doesn’t like “to go on a rant about anything,” she hates to be asked about boyfriends.

“When I’m constantly asked about guys that I’ve dated, it kind of pi***s me off because I feel like I’ve succeeded enough as an artist. I don’t feel like I need to be known for anything else than my art.”

Goulding gets especially upset because “[H]alf the time it’s not true, and it’s made up and it’s silly.” Ellie also spoke about her friendship with Taylor Swift who also performed at the British Summertime concerts. Goulding said that she loves to be around people like Taylor because “these women are incredibly strong and incredibly passionate about what they do.” Ellie continued by saying that she found her friends “incredibly inspirational.”

At the same time, Goulding hopes that she can act as an inspiration to her fans. Ellie is happy for her fans to know that she is into keeping fit, but she also wants them to know that she enjoys going drinking with her friends, that she likes to eat ice-cream, and that at times she eats unhealthy food.

Ellie also revealed that her new album will drop sometime before the end of this year.
