Actors Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner Announce Divorce, Day After 10th Wedding Anniversary

After much speculation on the state of their marriage, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced on Tuesday their plans to divorce, a day after their 10th wedding anniversary. A source told Reuters that Garner, 43, and Affleck, 42, have been separated for over six months.

Affleck and Garner met on the set of Pearl Harbor in 2001 and fell in love while filming 2003’s superhero film, Daredevil. The duo married in 2005 on a Turks and Caicos island beach.

In a joint statement, Affleck and Garner had the following to say about their impending divorce and wishes for privacy during this time.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”

Suspicions that all was not well with Garner and Affleck were raised during Affleck’s acceptance speech at the Oscars in 2013 for Argo. On stage, he said to Garner, “I want to thank you for working on marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good, it is work, but it’s the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with.”

When Jennifer was asked about Ben referring to their marriage as “work,” she replied, “I know Ben, I knew he meant it as the hugest, warmest compliment in the world. I think he was saying, ‘Look, what we have is really real and I value it above all and I’m in it with you and I know you are in it with me.’ That’s the way I took it.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, there was also speculation that Ben and Jennifer were heading for divorce when moving vans were spotted at their Pacific Palisades home on June 21. Workers were seen carrying boxes and furniture out of the home. The couple did their best to dispel those divorce rumors, explaining they were simply renovating their main house.

Affleck and Garner have three children together: Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. According to the Associated Press, Affleck will live in a separate house on the couple’s property, and Garner and Affleck will continue to co-parent their children. A source also said the couple plans to settle their divorce through a mediator.

Both Ben and Jennifer have been keeping busy with their careers. Filming for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in Detroit has just wrapped, and now Affleck has been seen in Toronto where Suicide Squad is currently filming. Garner is currently filming Nine Lives, which co-stars Kevin Spacey and Robbie Amell.
