Confederate Flag Fight In South Carolina Leads To Arrest Of 25-Year-Old Man [Video]

The Confederate flag continues to command attention and controversy as protesters demand the Confederate flag be lowered, or placed in a museum, as a remembered symbol that speaks of hateful times to some. First off, there was the NSFW viral LiveLeak video that gained more than 500,000 views showing a Confederate flag parade ending with a car crash and the cursing narrator proclaiming, “God don’t like ugly,” as reported by the Inquisitr.

Now comes the above video from CBS, which was published to their YouTube channel on June 29, and is gaining views by the minute. In the video, folks on either side of the Confederate flag debate can be seen fighting outside of the South Carolina state house. The fact that the Confederate flag flies over such a building of honor has caused consternation for those who believe it should be lowered. Even opponents of the Confederate flag believe that lowering the symbol over the South Carolina Statehouse would mean giving it as much respect as the flag representing the United States of America, therefore placement in a museum has been called for regarding the controversial flag.

As a result of the controversy, a fight erupted on Monday evening at approximately 7:15 p.m. when Confederate flag supporters showed up in around 12 vehicles and stopped directly in the front of Statehouse, blocking the street. Those folks got into altercations with the crowd of around 30 people who were showing their dismay against the Confederate flag.

One Confederate flag supporter named Joe Linder said that racism isn’t a part of the Confederate flag for him.

“The blood on my face, the blood in my teeth, the blood on my hands is no comparison to the Southern blood that runs through my veins. I’m gonna tell you one thing, I ain’t sitting down; this’ll just make me walk taller.”

Some of the fighting broke out when Sydney Baldwin said that another person took his Confederate flag. Baldwin says he got out to get his flag and got hit in the side. As for the arrest over the Confederate flag melee, 25-year-old Nicholas Thompson was charged with disorderly conduct. Ever since Dylann Roof shot and killed nine people in a church and was later discovered in photos proudly waving the Confederate flag, the flag has gained more attention as a symbol that white supremacists often use to symbolize hate and racism. Decisions are pending on whether the Confederate flag will be moved to a museum.
