‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Rumors: Which Big-Name Character Is Rumored To Return With Patrick Dempsey Leaving?
The departure of McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy leaves what many see as a gaping hole in the cast. Patrick Dempsey being gone means that the show can survive, but there is going to be a huge piece missing from the puzzle. Rumors have started up, and an old one has come back regarding the return of Izzy — Katherine Heigl.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 is coming in just about three short months, and ABC knows that they have to get back the viewers who were so disappointed in McDreamy’s death.

While this rumor wouldn’t necessarily make up for the loss of McDreamy, it is an interesting one to think about. Christian Today reports that Katherine Heigl’s character Izzy could make her way back to Grey’s Anatomy.
Not only did Dempsey’s exit from the show start rumors of Izzy coming back, but other rumors did too. Yes, rumors started other rumors, and the former rumor is that Ellen Pompeo could be heading out as well.
Yes, it’s rumored that Meredith Grey could be leaving the show, and that would really call for Izzy to make her way back to the hospital.
It appears as if these rumors of Izzy coming back have made their way to Heigl, and she was asked about them by Entertainment Tonight. She was more than alright with addressing those rumors and responding solidly when asked if there was any truth in them.
“There is not. I’m sorry.”
She really didn’t have a whole lot more to say about the rumors of Izzy’s return, but she said she was shocked by the loss of Derek Shepherd (Dempsey). Heigl stated that “it’s just so hard to picture” Grey’s Anatomy without him.
There have been a number of exits from Grey’s Anatomy in just the last year alone, and creator Shonda Rhimes has said that Derek’s death will have a big impact on the other characters.
“Now, Meredith and the entire ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life.
“The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: The carousel never stops turning.”
One possibility is that the already revealed condition (Alzheimer’s) in Meredith Grey could worsen even though it’s barely been touched on so far. Those are simply other rumors though and add to the collection which includes the return of Katherine Heigl’s character Izzy to Grey’s Anatomy.
