Young Thug And Lil Wayne May Settle Their Differences On Independence Day

Young Thug and Lil Wayne may have to settle their issue based on the best production coming July 4. The ongoing fight between the two talented rappers is still on and actually increasing in varying degrees and may come to a climax on Independence Day. According to Music Times, Thug plans to release his Slime Season mixtape on the same day as Lil Wayne’s Free Weezy Album.

In a related Inquisitr article, Young Thug aims at production and is stopping at nothing to follow Lil Wayne’s every footstep. His Slime Season, a series of mixed tapes produced by London On da Track could become a serious competition or possibly end Lil Wayne’s Career.

In May, the growing tension between the rappers took another interesting turn when a suspect in the April shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour bus was arrested and reports began to indicate that he may be linked to Young Thug. The alleged shooter, Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, reportedly targeted the Young Money rapper for street cred.

Young Thug comes from Atlanta and has obvious similarities with locals like wannabe astronaut Future. But his most direct influence is clearly Lil Wayne. Thug used to idolize Wayne. When Wayne said that Tha Carter V would be his final album, Thug announced that his album would be called Carter 6 as an homage. The pair, label-mates at Cash Money, even collaborated together, but for several reasons they began to fall out last year. Their beef was undoubtedly tied up in Wayne’s problems with Cash Money co-owner Birdman, with whom Wayne was famously close for years, but who he’s now suing, saying he hasn’t been paid properly. He’s also furious that the imprint won’t release Tha Carter V, but this delay is not entirely a surprise. Wayne’s critical and commercial appeal have fallen in recent years, with his label-mates Drake and Nicki Minaj obviously vaulting past him.

But Carter 6 is strong nearly all the way through, and shows that Young Thug has grown into himself. After experimenting with different sounds and putting out projects with imprints like Gucci Mane’s label, Young Thug on Cash Money seems like the best fit. And as Wayne’s rhymes have grown increasingly gimmicky (see his recent Sorry 4 the Wait 2 mixtape) one begins to understand why Birdman has thrown in his lot with the next generation.

Independence Day, a memorable day for Americans, may just end up being a memorable day for both Young Thug and Lil Wayne.
