San Francisco Pride Shooting: Pride Festival Shooting Leaves 1 Man Injured After Gunshots Are Fired [Video]

A San Francisco Pride shooting occurred in the early evening hours on Saturday.

NBC Bay Area reports that four gunshots were fired after an argument broke out at the Civic Center Plaza during Pride festivities around 6 p.m. local time. The incident left one man shot in the arm and several others detained by police.

Police say everything happened after several groups of men who were “unrelated” to Pride events began arguing. Things got heated and one of the men produced a gun and fired shots. One of the bullets struck a 64-year-old man in the arm who was a Pride spectator. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

People were heard screaming in the background and witnesses say people were fleeing the scene.

The Crime Scene Unit, Gang Task Force, and Night Investigations Units were called to launch an investigation.

According to a report by San Francisco’s CBS Local, the two groups of men who were in a verbal dispute involved teenagers — six of which are detained. It’s unclear at this point if the gay pride shooting incident was gang-related.

Apparently, the 64-year-old victim who was shot was a vendor at one of the Pride booths.

The San Francisco Pride celebrations were winding down when the gunshots rang out.

In a series of tweets after the Pride Festival shooting, there were three weapons recovered, and between two and three suspects detained. Updates are varied, but only one individual was shot and taken to the hospital.

The Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriages are legal in all 50 states of the U.S. This is a landmark decision and is considered a huge victory for the LGBT community. Celebrations involve numerous gay couples getting married over the weekend in addition to taking part in festivities held around the country.

As the Supreme Court of the United States writes on its website, the Fourteenth Amendment is cited in the high court’s ruling.

“The Fourteenth Amendment requires a State to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and to recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out-of-state.”

The decision will continue to be a source of debate and controversy among citizens of the nation.

Although the San Francisco Pride shooting was a distraction at the end of the celebrations, it appears early in the investigation that it was unrelated to any protests of the Supreme Court’s ruling.
