Captain Kirk, Picard, Janeway, Archer and Commander Sisko will be reuniting in London this October for a Star Trek Convention. “Destination Star Trek London” will feature all five captains from the hit TV series (played by William Shatner, Sir Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula) on the same stage for the first time.
According to Reuters, this will be the first official live Star Trek convention in the UK in the last 10 years.
Rob Nathan, the marketing director for Media 1o, said that the Star Trek convention will feature several other characters from the show in addition to all five captains. Nathan said:
“It’s not just the five captains. There will be a host of other guests from the series. The fans will be able to get up close… We are going to make this really interactive. There are going to be stunt displays, we are going to recreate some sets, and get some original sets. People will be able to sit on the starship bridge with members of the cast… It’s going to be an absolute pilgrimage for ‘Star Trek’ fans.”
Liz Kalodner, general manger of CBS Consumer Products, added:
“The ‘Star Trek’ fan base in the UK is one of the biggest in the world, and it has waited a long time for the convention to return, so we wanted to make sure we did it right.”
“Star Trek” hit the small screen in 1966 with William Shatner as the captain of the Starship Enterprise. Shatner, now 81, draws thousands to “Stark Trek” conventions in the United States. Avery Brooks, who became the first black actor to take a lead role when he stepped into the captain boots in 1993, Kate Mulgrew, who was the first female to helm the Enterprise, Avery Brooks and Sir Patrick Stewart also bring in big crowds during solo appearances.
With all five captains at the London Star Trek convention, organizers are expecting close to 15,000 people to attend the event.
The Star Trek convention will be held at the Excel Exhibition Center from Oct 19-21. Tickets go on sale starting April 30.
