WWE News: Original Plans For ‘Money In The Bank’, Why Sheamus Really Won Over Others

As we all know by now, WWE Superstar Sheamus recently became Mr. Money in the Bank after winning the annual Money in the Bank match at the PPV of the same name. No one really thought Sheamus was the favorite going in, and it appears as if he wasn’t in management’s eyes either. Last year, Sheamus was tapped to win the match. However, due to injury, among other things, WWE decided against it and went with Seth Rollins. This made better sense anyway, looking at the year Rollins had.

Original plans for this year were quite unique. According to Daily Wrestling News, Roman Reigns was the big time favorite for management. WWE also considered having Dolph Ziggler walk away with it yet again as well. WWE went with “Option C” if you will, in Sheamus mainly due to the fact that they wanted him to win before. Many within WWE do not feel it was a bad creative decision to go with Sheamus as he can be seen as a credible WWE World Heavyweight Champion if WWE decides to have him win.

While Reigns was the early favorite with Ziggler as a secondary guy, WWE went another direction. Many feel WWE did not want to go with Ziggler because, at the time, he had not signed a new contract yet and his deal with WWE was set to end very soon.

Triple H made the decision to go ahead and have Sheamus go over knowing all the facts involved for both Reigns and Ziggler.

Recently, the Inquisitr reported that Vince McMahon blocked the creative move to turn Roman Reigns heel. Triple H wanted to make it happen, but when Vince blocks the decision there is nothing much that can be done. There is a possibility that WWE did not give the briefcase to Roman Reigns due to the fact that they are planning a heel program for him which does not yet include the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Or WWE simply feels he does not need it to become champion.

It is thought that Reigns could very well turn heel in his program with Bray Wyatt, but this would not happen until after the rivalry concluded.

When it comes to Sheamus, WWE is not sure what to do with him. The idea of giving him the briefcase was thought to help move stories through him. However, it has not helped much. WWE had Sheamus lose literally the night after he won the MITB case to Dean Ambrose, which many thought was surprising due to the fact that normally the MITB winner gets a big push with very few TV losses.

WWE is not yet sure where to go with Sheamus, so random wins and losses are something we will have to get used to for a while. At the end of the day, there are many who like the decision to have him win the case and many who hate it. This is not debatable. What is up for debate is if it will make sense long term to have Sheamus win the case and potentially the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
