Cauliflower Vegetable Sings When Heatwave Arrives

The cauliflower vegetable sings when warmer weather arrives, when you can actually hear the cauliflower vegetable growing.

If listening to a field full of cauliflowers grow sounds like something you’d be into, then hopefully you live near Lincolnshire or Cornwall in the British countryside, according to Express. A cauliflower vegetable sings and is more likely to get heard in one of these places, because it’s simply a popular place to grow the white vegetable.

A cauliflower vegetable sings a certain song called a “cauliflower creak.” The sound has been described as “spooky” and “popping.” It occurs when the cauliflower has a sudden growth spurt and the white florets on the vegetable crash into each other, according to Metro.

David Simmons, a cauliflower farmer, said the cauliflower creak is definitely real.

“You’ve got to be there in the still of morning, when there is no background noise, and you can hear the actual crops growing. It’s a bit like Rice Krispies in a bowl. You pour milk in, hear it popping. It’s that sort of noise, when it’s very still in the morning.”

Interestingly, the cauliflower vegetable sings its own harvest time this year, and its tune will be extra sweet. The farmer claims those who have never tried the white veggie before should give it a go after harvest.

“It’s rare for the cauliflower creak be so pronounced. This weekend’s warmer nights combined with long daylight hours means the crop will come to harvest in record time. It will result in the sweetest-tasting cauliflowers for a quarter of a century. So if you haven’t tried the vegetable yet, this is the crop to go for.”

Before harvest, it takes about 90 days for the cauliflower to grow around this time of year. A crop is typically planted between March and July.

Cauliflower isn’t limited to the white color typically seen; green, purple, and orange are other colors the cauliflower vegetable can exhibit.

The leaves of the cauliflower vegetable are also very edible and have a stronger flavor than the florets. Some people use the leaves in soups and other recipes.

However, the cauliflower vegetable sings alongside other growing goodies. Cabbages, rhubarb, and other veggies make the similar popping song, but it is the cauliflower that makes the loudest song of all.
