Giancarlo Stanton To Have X-Rays On Hand On Saturday

Giancarlo Stanton has had an incredible season so far, but he may have hit a bump in the road on Friday as he hurt his left hand on a swing in the sixth inning and will now have to get x-rays on Saturday. The Miami Marlins lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-1, but the greater loss could be if Stanton needs to go on the disabled list. ESPN is reporting that Giancarlo first felt pain in the hand in the sixth inning and it got worse when he struck out swinging in the ninth, but Stanton isn’t worrying just yet.

“My bat dug into my hand a little bit. It didn’t feel the greatest. Just get checked out and then know for sure what’s going on.”

Marlins manager Dan Jennings, who held a team meeting before the game to try to rally the troops, was trying to stay positive about Stanton’s possible injury. The Sun Sentinel is reporting that Jennings is taking a wait-and-see approach.

“They want to take a look at his hand or wrist we’ll see. I don’t know anything right now. Hopefully, it’s something he just tweaked a little bit in one of his swings.”

Stanton has been one of the few bright spots for the Marlins this season. As the Marlins flounder in fourth place in the National League East, 11 1/2 games behind the front running Washington Nationals, Stanton has been flying high. Giancarlo has 27 home runs and 67 runs batted in, both of which lead Major League Baseball.

If Stanton needs to be put on the disabled list it will be the fourth straight season that he has missed time due to an injury. As reported on earlier in the Inquisitr, Giancarlo suffered his scariest injury last September when he was hit in the face by a pitch. He has bounced back incredibly from that, but all these injuries have to be a big concern for the Marlins, who just signed Stanton to a huge contract this past offseason. Stanton was rewarded with a potential 13-year-deal worth $325 million because he is such a big draw for the franchise, but he needs to be on the field for the Marlins to reap the benefits.

Hopefully, the results from Giancarlo Stanton’s x-rays come back negative and he can return to the lineup in just a few days. Stanton is on pace to hit 60 home runs and it would be a shame to have such a great season derailed.
