I Dough, I Dough: Ben And Jerry’s Renames Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream To Cheer Gay Marriage Ruling [Photos]

“I Dough, I Dough” from Ben & Jerry’s is the new name of the classic favorite “Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.”

The ice cream company made the decision to change the name to “I Dough, I Dough” as a way to cheer the legalization of gay marriage in the U.S., reported the Huffington Post.

You can buy I Dough I Dough at Ben & Jerry’s participating Scoop Shops, complete with a pint sleeve that celebrates the Supreme Court’s decision. Can’t make it to a Scoop Shop but want to scream for I Dough I Dough ice cream?

The Human Rights campaign also has the pint for sale, complete with the commemorative I Dough I Dough Ben & Jerry’s sleeve. The full amount of the purchase is given to the campaign’s equal rights battle for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders.

Heralding the Supreme Court for legalizing gay marriage across the nation, the CEO of Ben & Jerry’s emphasized its support.

“Ben & Jerry’s is proud of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision against discrimination as it boldly stands up for equality for same sex couples everywhere,” said Jostein Solheim, the ice cream company CEO.

In addition to renaming the chocolate chip ice cream to “I Dough I Dough,” Ben & Jerry’s came up with the name “Hubby Hubby” for its Chubby Hubby flavor to honor Vermont’s legalization of gay marriage in 2009.

The company devoted a page on its Web site to the unveiling of I Dough I Dough. Ben & Jerry’s described how the ice cream firm views the decision.

“Across the country and around the globe, the movement for marriage equality is on an unstoppable roll, generating history-making victories, game-changing wins and growing waves of public support for legalizing same-sex marriage everywhere. With this ruling, the SCOTUS recognizes the bond of love and commitment between two people, and protects the fundamental rights and freedoms that come with it.”

Ben & Jerry’s has earned a place in the list of corporations who support gay rights, reported Time.

They started providing health insurance to same-sex partners of their employees in 1989. In addition, the ice cream manufacturer was part of a group of businesses urging the Supreme Court to end the ban on same-sex marriage.

The decision to make “I Dough I Dough” Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is a dramatic contrast to a recent battle that resulted from U.K. bakery owners’ refusal to create a cake that expressed support for gay marriage, as the Inquisitr reported.

The cake was supposed to feature the phrase “Support Gay Marriage,” with Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street showcased on the concoction. The bakery owners declined to fulfill that request.
