Fake Dentist In Dallas Arrested, But Not Before Pulling 5 Teeth From Woman [Video]

One Dallas woman doesn’t have anything to smile about thanks to the fake dentist who put her through a “bloody nightmare.” According to the Dallas Morning News, victim Erika Martinez was in a bind: she had a horrible toothache and no dental insurance. When told the procedure she needed would cost about $9,000, the Dallas native began to look into cheaper alternatives.

She found Mario Alberto Sabillon-Mejia through a friend on Facebook. Sabillon-Mejia worked as a dentist and a denture maker. He operated out of the cities of Dallas and Houston. When Martinez contacted Alberto, he told her that he would be happy to help her get rid of that dreadful toothache — for a price tag of $1,500. It seemed too good to be true. Unfortunately for the victim, it was.

Unbeknownst to his desperate and naive victims, Alberto had no license to practice dentistry. Authorities believe that what little the fake dentist did know came from practicing on his patients.

On May 18, Sabillon-Mejia and his 41-year-old “assistant” Tiffany Gonzalez came to Martinez’s home. The procedure consisted of the fake dentist and his accomplice holding their victim down while he pulled tooth after tooth. But the pain didn’t end there for Erika.

Martinez became very ill due to an infection brought on by the fake dentist’s actions. Her horrible experience led the Dallas woman to contact the police. On Wednesday afternoon, Alberto Sabillon-Mejia and Tiffany Gonzalez were arrested. The New York Daily News reports the duo was charged with practicing medicine without a license and possession of dangerous drugs.

Dallas police Lt. Tony Crawford told the press that their victim would “require extensive medical and dental treatment to heal from her injuries.”

In addition to legal woes, the fake dentist is apparently facing deportation. It turns out that Alberto, who originally hails from Honduras, is an undocumented immigrant. Due to his unlawful presence in the United States, Sabillon-Mejia is being held on an immigration hold. He declined requests for an interview.

Although Erika Martinez is the first person to come forward following her horrific experience with the fraudulent dentist, Crawford said that he suspects the man had as many as 50 victims throughout the Dallas area. Authorities are currently asking anyone who went to Sabillon-Mejia for medical care to come forward.

The nightmarish situation in Dallas serves as a reminder that, when you turn away from legitimate avenues for care, you could find yourself the victim of a fake dentist or other modes of fraud. The potential danger just isn’t worth it.
