Domino’s Pizza Driver Who Fatally Shot Alleged Robber Put On Paid Leave

A Domino’s Pizza delivery driver who opened fire on two alleged holdup men, killing one of them, has been placed on leave by the company.

The incident happened outside a Domino’s in Hollywood, Florida, early yesterday morning.

Domino’s has a no-weapons policy.

Two apparently armed men wearing ski masks allegedly confronted the driver, identified by news outlets as Slayde Henry, outside the store at about 1 a.m. Henry, 24, “had just returned from a delivery when two masked men ambushed him in the parking lot and tried to rob him. Henry pulled a gun and shot, and killed, one of them,” CBS News Miami reported.

Said a police spokeswoman about the incident, “In response to two armed males coming up to him, he reacted and shot at one of the suspects.”

That suspect reportedly died at the scene.

Henry was unharmed in the encounter and was described by a Domino’s co-worker according to WSVN, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, as “usually pretty calm… pretty chill type of guy. I don’t know what happened that caused him to shoot, but obviously his life was threatened or he felt that it was threatened.”

The other suspect fled the scene on foot, and despite a police dragnet, he is still st large. Cops have requested anyone with information about the second would-be robber to contact the Broward County Crime Stoppers organization, with the possibility of a cash reward.

A Domino’s corporate representative told The Daily Caller that the situation the pizza delivery driver found himself in doesn’t necessarily give rise to an automatic termination.

“Every situation is different and it’s far too early to make a determination like that. We’ve offered him counseling should he need it after such a traumatic experience.”

Henry is on paid leave pending an investigation.

In a separate statement, the spokesman explained, “As do all national pizza delivery companies, we do have a no-weapons policy at our company-owned stores. We are grateful that our employee was not hurt and hope the Hollywood police department can find the second suspect as quickly as possible,” the Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

“Domino’s corporate policy prohibits employees from carrying guns while delivering pizzas or while working inside of company stores. The no-guns policy, which most other pizza chains employ, has been criticized since delivery drivers are at increased risk for targeting by criminals since they often carry money with them late at night,” The Daily Caller added.

Domino’s is said to be the largest pizza franchise in the U.S. and the largest worldwide. It operates 11,700 stores in more than 75 countries, with about 5,000 stores in the U.S.
