Sam Harry: Mom Or Her Lover Brutally Killed Baby Sam, Police Say, But Both Walk Free — Why?

Baby Sam Harry was a typical, bubbly little 20-month-old boy and his dad Nick’s pride and joy. But on April 21 of 2013, all that came to an end when the child was with his mom. Or Sam was with his mom’s new lover.

Police aren’t sure — and that’s why both of them are free today, facing no charges at all even though both were arrested in connection with the once-happy little boy’s sickening, violent death, according to a report in Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper.

Sometime that morning, before about 9 a.m., someone picked up little Sam and slammed him against a hard surface. The investigation into the boy’s death by Bedforshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertforshire Major Crime Unit detectives determined that the child hit his head with a force the same as if he was in a car crash — at 60 miles per hour.

Sam suffered catastrophic brain injuries and passed away in the hospital four days after the brutal assault. The next day, police arrested two people on suspicion of Sam’s murder. They were Sam’s own mother, 28-year-old Deanna Buffham, and the mom’s latest lover, Ryan Bate, 23.

And then something happened that left the cops at a total loss. Both of them accused the other one — and they both said they were out of the home when the other member of the couple assaulted and killed the little boy.

The police conducted an investigation that dragged on for 18 months — but in the end failed to establish exactly when little Sam died and which one of the two suspects killed him. They say there’s no possibility that Sam was murdered by anyone else.

But because they can’t prove that Buffham and Ryan were together at the time Sam was thrown against the hard surface, and they don’t know which one did it, they can’t prosecute either one, even for a “joint venture” crime — which means that a person present at a murder who did nothing to stop it is just as guilty as the actual killer.

Nick Harry, 30, says he had tried for months to keep his son away from his mom — who, he says, is a violent alcoholic and her lover. But the courts never granted him exclusive custody of Sam. Here he is with his son, in much better days.

Now Nick Harry is on a campaign to get justice for his son. He wants to get rid of the infuriating legal loophole that allowed both his ex and her lover to skate.

“Both Deanna Buffham and Ryan Bate remain free to walk our streets. One has committed a crime of the most horrific magnitude, the other continues to protect them, both walk free,” he wrote on a Change.org petition to reform the law.

“No criminal record, no electronic tag, no license conditions. Both are free to move next door to you, sit in the park in which your children play or maybe even work at their nursery.”

Nick points out in his petition that in the U.K., 52 children each year are killed by their parents.

In the United States, between 250 and 300 children are murdered by parents each year — about one every 36 hours. The Inquisitr has covered numerous recent such cases, such as the incident at this link and another at this link, for example.

Nick also has a Facebook page, “Justice For Sam,” on which he posted the following notice.

Buffham and Bate have an infant child of their own, but rather than come clean about what really happened to little Sam Harry, Nick says that they allowed the state to take their own child away as they stick to the stories that allow them to live the lives of free, ordinary people.
