‘Fast And Furious’ Theme Park Ride Dedicated To Paul Walker

Universal Studios has just unveiled a brand new Fast and Furious ride. It’s the first of its kind, and to unveil the ride, star Vin Diesel and his co-stars were on hand to launch the Supercharged ride.

Vin Diesel, who has been at the forefront of the entire series with late actor Paul Walker, decided to say a few words at the ceremony. “I know when we were making it, it felt like we were creating something that I had never experienced. We employed all kinds of incredible technology. I’m really excited to get in there and feel it out and get that adrenaline pumping.”

Following his words of excitement, Diesel decided to dedicate the ride to Paul Walker, who perished in a car accident in November of 2013. “This one’s for you, Pablo,” said Diesel before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He continued, “I have to believe he’s there in spirit. Every second the saga continues it’s in his name. Any expansion of this mythology is in his name. He’s a part of it.” Diesel was joined by cast mates Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham.

The ride features Diesel and his other Fast and Furious co-stars, complete with 3D glasses, for an epic simulated car chase on 360 degree screens. The odd part about the whole thing is that despite Diesel’s dedication to Paul Walker, the late actor is not featured on the Fast and Furious — Supercharged ride at Universal Studios Hollywood.

According to the executive producer of Supercharged, Chick Russell, as told to USA Today, that it was impossible to include Walker while shooting the hologram process.

“We started our production after Paul had passed away. Unlike the film series, we hadn’t shot any of the film, nor did we have any material available to us. When we shoot for a theme park, it’s a completely different experience. It’s all specialized work for a thrill ride environment.”

For the film, which is one of the highest grossing films of all time, Paul had shot footage before his death. His brothers, Caleb and Cody Walker, were on hand to fill in the gaps, and most of the scenes where they were used were seamless, as the production utilized far away shots, old audio of Walker, and CGI’d his face from footage left on the cutting room floor of other Furious films.

So far, fans don’t seem to be too bothered that Paul Walker isn’t included in the ride.
