Sarah Silverman Reprises Her Role As Helen In ‘Masters of Sex’ Season Three

Sarah Silverman will reprise her role as Helen in the period drama Masters of Sex. Her character will reunite with her girlfriend Betty.

Sarah Silverman has been confirmed for the third season of Showtime’s Masters of Sex, the premium cable network announced Wednesday. Silverman’s character Helen will reunite with with her girlfriend Betty played by Annaleigh Ashford. The third season will predominantly deal with the ups and downs the lesbian couple deals with as it tries to have a baby. Given the fact the period drama is set in the mid-1960s, it is quite understandable the struggles, both intrinsic and external, the couple has to endure and win over to welcome their own bundle of joy.

Sarah Silverman appeared in just two episodes of Masters of Sex season two. Considering the fact that she is going to be involved for a much longer time with the series, it might not be correct to call her a guest star, but stars who will appear for a very short time in Season Three include Josh Charles (The Good Wife) as a perfume salesman looking to bottle the smell of sex and Tate Donovan (24: Live Another Day) as a scientist involved with Margaret Scully (Allison Janney).

Masters of Sex, which stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, is based on real-life pioneers of human sexuality during the transitionary phase of the world into today’s modern and sexually tolerant society. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, who are played by Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan respectively, are considered two of the boldest researchers who attempt to reexamine the contemporary and orthodox society’s views and standards that were considered “acceptable.” The show highlights their lives, struggles, and romances that weirdly, yet beautifully entangle with the pop-culture trajectories.

It is undeniably evident that Masters and Johnson’s research sparked one of the biggest sexual revolutions of the 20th century, the repercussions and results of which are very evident even today. It is perhaps the study the audacious duo conducted that set the ball rolling for a much tolerant modern society, one that accepts and many-a-time welcomes people of multiple sexual orientations without prejudice.

The TV series, which will soon have more episodes starring Sarah Silverman, is based on Thomas Maier’s book Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, The Couple Who Taught America How To Love.

Sarah Silverman has always been recognized as a versatile comedian that is able to strike multiple chords with her acting. Masters of Sex should be an ideal platform for Silverman to shine even more.
