Giant ‘Elder Scrolls Online’ PS4 Patch Improves Stability, Fixes Several Known Bugs

PlayStation 4 owners playing The Elder Scrolls Online received an update today for the game on their platform. Maintenance on the PlayStation 4 North American and European megaservers completed early this morning, and the servers are now back online. The hefty patch addressed many issues on the console including making improvements to encountering invisible NPCs, addressing a number of quest problems, and fixing a number of crashes.

Today’s patch, v01.04, is the first patch for the PlayStation 4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online in a series of patches to maintain the game. The day-one patch most players have already downloaded is included in this update as well, making the download quite large. PlayStation 4 players can expect a near 16 gigabyte download in order to get back into The Elder Scrolls Online. An employee of ZeniMax Online, however, confirmed that this is not normal and will likely not occur with future patches.

“Just to follow up, we do understand that having to download such a large patch is frustrating and not ideal, and we want to let you know that we are actively working to ensure future ESOTU PS4 patches are not cumulative.”

Large download size aside, the patch contents are worth noting. A major highlight of the fixes is a decreased chance to encounter invisible NPCs. Although players still have a chance to find an invisible NPC in the world, the character should now appear to the player within about 30 seconds. The occurrence of invisible NPCs is still being addressed and worked on by them, however.

Several quests issues and crashes have also been modified in today’s patch. Specific quests like “Monkey Magic,” “Sever All Ties,” and “Light from the Darkness” have all had their problems resolved. Moreover, crashes like those found when teleporting in Cyrodiil or the one that could happen when a player’s riding skill was fully upgraded have been rectified as well.

Of course, many more changes were pushed through in the large update. Several UI issues have been cleaned up in the update and the character creation screen has seen a few fixes. The full list of patch notes for The Elder Scrolls Online can be found on the official forums.

The Elder Scrolls Online released earlier this month on consoles. Before its release, the developer wanted to point out a few of the game’s most important features. As the Inquisitr reported, The Elder Scrolls Online is a buy-to-play game with an optional subscription. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are completely crafted with the console in mind, and the game world is constantly updating, evolving, and changing.
