Soyu Of K-Pop Group SISTAR Reveals Her Dangerous Diet, Then Advises Fans Not To Follow It

Out of all the East Asian music industries, it is the Koreans who are exponentially gaining popularity not only in their country or region, but in the world. Their industry’s ability to make their music accessible to others by taking cues from famous musical acts has appealed to millions. As a result, Korean groups such as Big Bang and Girls’ Generation are now worldwide household names.

Even though the direction of the Korean music industry (especially K-pop) is innovative, there are still parts of said industry (similar in other music industries) that are questionable. With K-pop (or any pop musical genre), artists and groups are often told to stick to a specific look, one that is appealing to fans. Unfortunately, such a look might mean partaking in drastic measures, such as what Soyo of SISTAR does. Apparently, Soyo needs to stay on a dangerous diet just to keep her look. Soyo, on the other hand, understands the danger of her diet and advises her fans not to follow it.

According to Nate through Koreaboo, Soyu, along with actresses Lee Honey and Jung Soo Min, recently was the MC for the OnStyle show, Get It Beauty. During the show, Soyu revealed she had once lost 8 kg (about 17.6 pounds) by having one meal a day while “crazily exercising.” Her one meal would consists of four quail eggs without the yolks and milk. Her exercise regime included yoga, weight training, cardio, choreography rehearsals, and much more.

Soyu on Get It Beauty
Soyu made it known her daily meal consists of four quail egg and a glass of milk.

Despite Soyu being on such a dangerous diet, she has warned her fans these type of diets will simply ruin their bodies. Such a statement questions authenticity from Soyu’s reasons for losing weight in the first place. According to AllKpop in February of 2014, Soyu expressed the following on why she tries to lose weight.

“The reason why I try to lose weight is to not only to maintain [my health and figure], but to be honest, it’s also because my face is chubby… People would say that my face looks like a pig and that I look like an ahjumma. That is why I put a lot of bronzer on my face.”

Summarized, Soyu’s reasons for her diet is to appeal to her fans. One must question if the price of being a K-pop sensation is worth it. Soyu herself realizes her diet is dangerous. However, by partaking in such a diet, it seems her role as one of the members in the K-pop group SISTAR takes importance over her own well-being.
