Viral Hoax: Jilted Lover Sawing Everything In Half Not What It Seemed [Video]

It has come to light that a video that recently did the viral rounds on the social media showing a jilted lover halving joint property is not quite what it seemed.

It turns out it was a promotional stunt, showing people how they should prepare in the case of their relationship going bad. While it seems ironic that you should actually prepare for your marriage to fail, they do sort of have a point.

Recently the video came to light of a German guy so upset about the end of his 12 year relationship that he neatly sawed everything they jointly owned into two even halves. However, the jilted lover story was not quite what it seemed, and some people had a gut feeling all along.

While the story amused many people, the video recently shown on the Inquisitr was not actually the story of a jilted lover getting revenge.

In the video, included at the end of the article in case you missed it, we see the jilted lover, a German guy who goes by the YouTube user name of der juli, carefully slice everything in two using a saw and other tools. The man claimed he helped to earn half of their joint property and was being fair in preparing for his upcoming divorce proceedings.

He then uploaded the jilted lover video to YouTube with a caption reading, “Thank you for 12 beautiful years, Laura. You really deserve half.”

“Greetings also to my successor.”

The video went viral, with over six million views at the time of writing, and the photos also did the viral social media rounds showing a halved computer, bicycle, car, teddy bear and several other items which were then put on eBay for sale.

However, according to the Mirror, the truth will out and it seems there was no jilted lover and he didn’t have 12 beautiful years with someone called Laura. The whole deal was a hoax, perpetrated by a German legal firm, Deutsche Anwaltauskunft which acts as an information portal for the German Bar Association.

On their website they ‘fess up to the hoax, explaining that too few married couples take any form of precautions in case of the possibility of a break up and adding that they hoped everyone felt well entertained by the stunt.

“The idea behind it was to humorously point to a problem that is not only relevant in Germany: Too few married couples take precautions for the case of a possible separation – for example with a marriage contract.

“The event of divorce then often ends in bitter fights under which not only cars and furniture suffer but especially the affected couples and their children.

“Hopefully, at least, you felt well entertained.”

While the whole thing was an amusing stunt, the items that were sawn in half by the so called “jilted lover” did, indeed, go on sale on eBay, but with all the proceeds going to charity.
