WWE News: Hulk Hogan Praises Kevin Owens, Says ‘Owens Made Me A Believer Again’

Ten years from now, when somebody asks, “when was the last time WWE made someone a superstar in one night after their debut match?” the answer will almost certainly be Kevin Owens. That same question was asked after Owens had his debut match against John Cena at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, and so far, no one has been able to answer that question.

Judging from this past Monday’s RAW— other than Brock Lesnar — Kevin Owens may be WWE’s most over act. While he’s not the prototypical WWE superstar, he’s certainly found a way around that, and he’ll most likely have a long career at the top of WWE.

Some WWE legends — such as Kevin Nash — have criticized Owens for not having “the look.” While others — like Hulk Hogan — have praised Owens, saying that his look is similar to some of the top guys’ from the 1970’s.

Hogan — who is one of the judges on the upcoming season of WWE Tough Enoughwas interviewed by Rolling Stone at the WWE Performance Center today, and was asked about a number of things, including the rise of Kevin Owens. Hogan gave Owens high-praise, saying that Owens is the first wrestler in a long time who has been able to take him out of the moment and make him a believer again.

“Kevin [Owens] actually reminds me of one of the older wrestlers of the late seventies, some of those guys that didn’t have the build, but they would scare you if you met them at a bar. What hooked me about him was that I was watching a match of his on NXT and I found myself disassociated with being in the moment, all of a sudden I started watching him and he made me believe again. I watched real close, and there were no holes in his boat – his punches, his kicks, everything he did looked like it was killing the guy, which it probably was. He caught me with my guard down and he made me a believer again, he hooked me. He’s got that look, man; that demeanor and that swagger.”

With Owens being presented as a legitimate top guy in WWE, it would seem that WWE is finally changing their opinion on what a top guy has to look like. But, they’ll probably always prefer someone who looks like Roman Reigns to be their top guy over someone who looks like Kevin Owens. But, at least their mentality is changing.
