Channing Tatum Slams ‘G.I. Joe’: ‘I F**king Hate That Movie’

Channing Tatum apparently wants the world to know how he honestly feels about the 2009 film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

According to Us Weekly, the Magic Mike XXL actor held nothing back during an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday, freely dropping an F-bomb to express his hatred of the Stephen Sommers-directed film.

“”Look, I’ll be honest. I f**king hate that movie. I hate that movie.”

Tatum further explained that he did not willingly decide to take a leading role in the film, which turned into a box-office hit.

On the contrary, the 35-year-old actor claims that he was essentially forced into doing it thanks to a contractual obligation.

“[After] Coach Carter, they signed me for a three-picture deal…And as a young [actor], you’re like, ‘Oh my god, that sounds amazing, I’m doing that!'”

Channing Tatum also explained how that deal ended up backfiring on him years after he first agreed to it, which led to him playing Duke in the big-screen adaptation of the popular comic book and cartoon series.

“So time goes by, and you get other jobs… and things happen and you have a dream job that you want to go do, and the studio calls up. And they’re like, ‘Hey, we got a movie for you. We’re gonna send it to you.’ And it’s G.I. Joe.”

Channing admitted to Howard Stern that he was afraid of getting involved with G.I. Joe simply because he did not want to ruin a franchise that he loved as a child.

In addition to not getting the role that he initially wanted, of Snake Eyes, the 22 Jump Street star also stated that “the script wasn’t any good.”

After the movie was released in theaters, Channing was apparently excited about being able to move on to other projects.

According to Cinema Blend, Tatum requested to be killed off in the beginning of the 2013 sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, because “he didn’t want to be shackled to [the] franchise.”

However, the success of such movies as The Vow and 21 Jump Street reportedly boosted Channing’s value in the eyes of the producers — which led to added scenes, re-shoots, and new marketing materials that shined a bigger spotlight on his character.

During the same interview with Howard Stern, Channing Tatum mentioned that another film he was advised not to do by his team was 21 Jump Street. However, he admits that he was excited about the project because it gave him a chance to finally work alongside actor Jonah Hill.
