Pit Bull In A Wheelchair To Star In A Romance Novel, Author Jennifer Probst Explains In An Interview

Pit bulls have been getting a surprising amount of good press as of late from pit bull PACs to celebrity pit bull PSAs, as reported by the Inquisitr, so it may come as no surprise that a wheelchair-bound one would make its way into a romance novel. Huffington Post reports that Jennifer Probst, author of other romance novels such as The Searching for… and Marriage To A Billionaire series, will be utilizing a pit bull in a wheelchair as the catalyst for the romance of her two main characters.

Pit bulls have yet to be used in such a manner, and certainly one bound to a wheelchair, raises many questions as to the central plot of this novel. The pit bull in a wheelchair novel is called Searching for Always. Huffington Post sought further details in an interview with author Jennifer Probst and started simply with the inquiry as to just who is the influence, if any, for the pit bull in a wheelchair who takes such a pivotal role in this romance novel.

“That is my beloved Robert! Robert is a real dog who was rescued by Pets Alive [in Westchester, New York]. Robert is a pit bull, and has both of his back legs paralyzed so he can’t walk. He was on death row and ready to be put down, when Pets Alive looked into his face and saw a hope in his eyes that called out. The shelter quickly rescued him, brought him home, and so many people rallied to get Robert the medical attention he needed. He was fitted with a scooter so he could run and play again.”

Probst did say that though the canine protagonist Robert the wheelchair bound pit bull was based on a real pit bull, it had nothing to do with any real life experience she had. Though a search for Robert the wheelchair pit bull comes up with very little information, but a group called Pets Alive came to Robert’s rescue and helped find him the wheelchair attachment that saved his life from being put down.

Another wheelchair bound canine named Kiki also came up in the search, as another disabled pit bull who had the same care. According to her Facebook page, Kiki the wheelchair pit bull was dropped off at Chicago Animal Care and Control without the use of her legs. Through a program called Recycled Pits, Kiki the wheelchair bound canine has a walker-like device attached to her back that allows her movement.

The News Daily reported the by the end of Probst’s interview, she was asked the obvious question, “Are you hoping to change your readers’ attitude” on the breed.

“I know so many owners who have pit bulls and they are the sweetest dogs. I’m hoping to bring some awareness so the next time a reader looks at a pit bull, he or she doesn’t anticipate aggression or meanness or anything negative. Like people, dogs have different personalities and behavior issues, and should be looked at on an individual basis, not generalized.”

For anyone interested in check out Jennifer Probst novel, which Robert stars in, it will be available for purchase on June 30.
