Fox News has fired Joe Muto, an associate producer at the network, after it learned that Muto was the Fox Mole hired by Gawker. 

According to the Wall Street Journal, Muto was fired this morning.

Muto, who worked as the associate producer of “The O’Reilly Factor,” started writing an anonymous column on Gawker earlier this week.

Fox said in a statement:

“Joe Muto is fired effective April 12. Once the network determined that Mr. Muto was the main culprit in less than 24 hours, he was suspended late today while we pursued concurrent avenues. We are continuing to explore legal recourse against Mr. Muto and possibly others.”

But Muto’s firing won’t stop his column from running on Gawker. The Fox Mole wrote today:

“I am a weasel, a traitor, a sell-out and every bad word you can throw at me… but as of today, I am free, and I am ready to tell my story, which I wasn’t able to fully do for the previous 36 hours. Stay tuned for much, much more tomorrow.”

But Roger Ailes doesn’t seem to bothered by the Fox Mole. Ailes told the Hollywood Reporter that he didn’t really care that Gawker has a mole. Ailes said:

“What is Gawker? Is that that pornographic website? I don’t care if they have a mole because we’re not doing anything wrong, so it doesn’t matter… they hate me because I make money and I do it legitimately and they don’t like my politics, and that’s America.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that the Fox Mole didn’t reveal too many secrets at Fox. On his inaugural post, he wrote about a conversation that Mitt Romney and Sean Hannity had about his family horses.
