Miami Marlins Trade Rumors: Tom Koehler, Brad Hand Deal Developing
Miami Marlins trade rumors suggest Tom Koehler and Brad Hand are about to be dealt. Though these Marlins rumors don’t reveal what team that the deal will be with, several MLB sources are claiming it is close to taking place. This could be a bold move by the team, especially with Jose Fernandez close to being activated from the disabled list, but it is also very risky to trade good starting pitching while in a pennant race. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com confirms that there is chatter and that “rumblings” are taking place. He took to Twitter to reveal what he knows.

With the Marlins currently residing in fourth place within the National League East, this could be the first sign that the team is looking to deal assets before the MLB trade deadline. At 30-40, the Marlins have a lot of work to do to get back into contention, suggesting that it might be a good time to see what teams are willing to pay for a good starting pitcher. While Tom Koehler may not be a household name, he is a pitcher that could provide a lot of innings for a team needing to fill out a rotation.
During the 2015 MLB season, Koehler has started 13 games for the Marlins, posting a 3.76 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. He has pitched 79 innings and currently has a 5-4 overall record. Brad Hand has not found equal success, posting a 5.97 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 37 2/3 innings. Hand has appeared in 20 games but has no more options when it comes to getting sent back to the Minor Leagues. It means the team has to either trade him or designate him for assignment.
As previously reported on the Inquisitr, Giancarlo Stanton has been putting on a show for Marlins fans this season. In 69 games so far, he has 25 home runs and 63 RBIs to his name. Those are MVP numbers, and he is one of several players who are having good offensive years for the Marlins. The team is finally starting to get healthy again, suggesting that it could make a run in the second half of the MLB season. With that in mind, fans probably shouldn’t fear another “fire sale” taking place down in Florida.
The reason that Tom Koehler and Brad Hand are popping up in Miami Marlins trade rumors appears to be that the team has pitching to spare. With Jose Fernandez and Jarred Cosart ready to return from the disabled list, it simply forecasts that the team has to make a move soon.
