MLB Great Mark “the Bird” Fidrych Dead in Farm Accident

Former All-Star and Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark “the Bird” Fidrych was found dead Monday in a farm accident.

Fidrych was found at 2:30 p.m. Monday beneath a truck at his Northborough, Massachusetts farm. According to reports, it appeared that he had been working on the truck, although the cause of death was not disclosed. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the death.

Fidrych was named the American League rookie of the year in 1976 when he went 19-9 in his first season with the Tigers. Over 5 years he compiled a 29-19 record and a 3.10 ERA, before being forced to retire due to injury.
