Britney Spears Nearing ‘X Factor’ Deal

It looks like Britney Spears will be joining Simon Cowell on “The X Factor” next season.

The pop singer is reportedly in the final negotiations of her contract. Deadline reports that major contract issues were agreed upon over the weekend and Spears is expected to officially be named as a judge shortly.

It was rumored last month that Spears would be paid about $10 million for joining the judges panel on “The X Factor.” After recent negotiations, her salary has jumped up to about $15 million.

CBS reports that once Spears contract is finalized Cowell will start working on filling the other vacant chairs. After last season, Cowell fired host Steve Jones and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul with the hopes of finding bigger celebrities. Cowell has had his eye on Spears for the position and it looks like he’ll get what he wants.

Cowell said:

“I’m fascinated by Britney… The fact that she’s one of the most talked about — not just pop stars but people — in the world today, means that you’ve got this star power. This girl has resilience. I would think that if she’s managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, (X Factor would be) a walk in the park. I would be fascinated to hear what she has to say. She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial. There’s a reason for that.”

Cowell confirmed last month that the two vacant seats would be filled by women.
