‘The X-Files’ Revival: The Premiere Is ‘Slow, Intense And Functional’

One of the most highly-anticipated series of next season will not be airing until the midseason – specifically, it premieres Sunday, January 24, 2016, after the NFC championship game on FOX. Yes, there are still months until more episodes of The X-Files, but at least there will be six more episodes, and the stars have been teasing what to expect to help with the wait.

Returning for the X-Files revival are David Duchovny (Fox Mulder), Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully), Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), William B. Davis (The Cigarette Smoking Man), Chris Carter (series creator) and Glen Morgan, James Wong and Darin Morgan (writers-producers), and Anderson, who can currently be seen on TV on Hannibal, Thursdays at 10 p.m. on NBC, spoke to TVLine about stepping back into Scully’s shoes.

“It feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve played her. I can’t remember what year the movie was, but it felt like [Scully] was further away from me than I’d thought she would be. But I’ve also worked really hard at putting her entirely to sleep, so that was successful; she’s just taken longer to wake up.”

It may have been years since these characters were last seen on screen together and still months before they are again, but you can show your love for the show now by voting for The X-Files for Best Revival Fandom of the Year at MTV.

While Anderson couldn’t reveal anything about the script she has read of the upcoming episodes, she used the words “slow, intense and functional” to describe the first episode.

For a further tease of what to expect, FOX has also shared a first look at Mulder and Scully in the revival in the backseat of a car on Twitter and Joel McHale has tweeted a photo from the set.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Joel McHale (Community) will be guest starring in the X-Files revival as “the anchor of a popular conservative internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder.”

While nothing more is known about what to expect from McHale’s character (Tad O’Malley) and how he ends up crossing paths with David Duchovny’s Mulder, he did speak to HuffPost Live about being part of The X-Files revival series and called the script “dynamite.”

“I have been such a huge fan of the show and the movies, so to be on set with them was truly surreal and thrilling and fun, and I still can’t believe my good fortune for being on the show. And the script – it’s Chris Carter, so the script is dynamite, and he’s so nice on set.”

McHale also spoke about working with Duchovny and Anderson.

“David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson could not be nicer and more welcoming and gracious – and they don’t have to be. They could be rude to me and I’d be thrilled by it.”
