Penelope Cruz Mourns The Death Of Her Dad, Eduardo Cruz, 62, Who Died Of An Apparent Heart Attack

Penelope Cruz is mourning the death of her father, Eduardo Cruz, who passed away early Thursday at the age of 62.

Hello! magazine’s sister publication, Hola!, broke the news Thursday.

The cause of death has not been confirmed, but Hola! reports that he suffered a heart attack and had a history of heart problems.

According to the media outlet, Eduardo Cruz was in La Manga, Spain, where he lived with wife Carmen Moreno and their 3-year-old daughter, Salmaat, at the time of his death. The couple reportedly manage a beauty salon together in the picturesque, seaside town. It was Carmen’s brother who confirmed Eduardo’s death on Thursday.

Medics were reportedly called to the family home in La Manga around 2 a.m. Thursday, but first responders were unable to save his life, according to the Truth magazine.

Penelope Cruz, 41, is the eldest of three siblings born to Eduardo from his relationship with Encarna Sanchez. The couple also had a son, singer Eduardo Cruz, and a younger daughter, actress Monica Cruz.

The news likely comes as a shock to Penelope Cruz, who is said to have been very close to her late father. Penelope was often seen on her father’s arm for premieres early on in her career.

Penelope Cruz shared a glimpse of her Spanish childhood in an interview with Allure magazine in 2013.

“There was always music, and everybody was dancing, sometimes naked around the house. Not hippie, but very free.”

Penelope Cruz is mother to two children, 4-year-old Leonardo and 23-month-old Luna, with husband, actor Javier Bardem.

Condolences go out to Penelope Cruz and her family.
