TNA News: Rey Mysterio In Talks With Impact Wrestling?

As he continues to wrestle after his lengthy career with the WWE, former two-time World champion Rey Mysterio reportedly engaged in talks with TNA to potentially become a part of their roster last week, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via LordsofPain).

Mysterio, 40, was officially granted his release from the WWE in February of this year. Since then, the famous luchador returned to Mexico and wrestles for a variety of promotions on the independent circuit. Now, it appears that TNA is once again stepping up their pursuit of the famed Mexican icon.

The report states that TNA president Dixie Carter and Executive Vice President of TNA Wrestling John Gaburick met with Mysterio last week to discuss a potential contract. One of the ideas pitched by Carter and Gaburick was that they could help Mysterio with merchandise by getting it into stores to be sold. In addition to the merchandise, TNA would assist Mysterio in getting movie and television roles.

Arguably the biggest reported selling point was that the company would build around Mysterio as its “long sought after Mexican superstar.” However, considering the fact that Mysterio just turned 40, building a company, division or anything of any sort of long term value with Mysterio is questionable. That’s in addition to the fact that Mysterio’s body has been battered due to the injuries he sustained, and he likely would not be able to handle any sort of a regular wrestling schedule.

The Inquisitr reported several months ago that TNA had interest in Mysterio and were set to offer him a big time money contract when he became available. Obviously, any previous discussion did not yield a successful result as Mysterio is still not exclusively signed in the United States.

Currently, Mysterio is set for several shows on the east coast. On August 21, Mysterio will make his debut for House of Glory as he will wrestle former TNA X-Division champion Amazing Red in Queens, NY. The next night, Mysterio will make his Pro Wrestling Syndicate debut in New Jersey as he teams with Habib From The Car Wash to face Amazing Red and Matt Macintosh. But the report also mentions that if Mysterio were to sign with TNA, the company would be fine with him working for other promotions during his off days.

However, despite their reoccurring interest, the expectation is that Mysterio will eventually sign with Lucha Underground. Several Mexican wrestling icons and former WWE superstars are current members of the Underground roster. Among those names include Alberto Del Rio, Chavo Guerrero and others. Guerrero teased in the past that Mysterio would eventually sign with the promotion.
