Trace Adkins’ Divorce Settled During Mediation

Trace Adkins’ divorce was reportedly settled out of court, during private mediation. The country music superstar’s estranged wife, Rhonda, originally sought a $20 million settlement and full custody of their three daughters. However, the former couple eventually compromised and have reached an amicable agreement.

As reported by TMZ, Rhonda originally filed for divorce in March of 2014. Although the reason was officially listed as “irreconcilable differences,” Trace struggled with an alcohol addiction for more than 20 years.

The popular country singer was sober for several years. However, he suffered a relapse in January 2014 during Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Country Cruising event.

According to witness accounts, the country superstar verbally, and then physically, attacked an impersonator — who was singing one of his songs in a karaoke bar. As a result Adkins was escorted off the ship.

Fewer than two months later, Trace Adkins’ wife filed for divorce.

As reported by E!, Rhonda requested “primary residential custody” of all three children, continued health insurance, child support, spousal support, and all attorney fees. If granted, the divorce would have cost the singer more than $20 million.

On Wednesday, Trace Adkins’ attorney, Larry Hayes, confirmed the estranged couple reached a mutually agreed divorce settlement during mediation.

“The Adkins have settled their divorce amicably… Rhonda and Trace made this decision together in the best interest of their family. All that remains is for the court to approve the agreements that have been executed by them both. An updated petition seeking such Court approval will be filed in the coming days.”

A native of Sarepta, Louisiana, Adkins’ father taught him to play guitar at an early age. While in high school, the talented musician joined a local gospel group.

Although he lost a finger in a freak accident, the doctors were able to re-attach it so he could still play his beloved guitar.

As reported by Ace Showbiz, Trace Adkins got his big break at the age of 34 — when he was offered a contract with Capitol Records. His debut album, Dreamin’ Out Loud, produced five country hits and went platinum.

Throughout his career, the country music superstar was nominated for four Grammy Awards, won three The Academy of Country Music awards, and also won two Country Music Television Awards.

Although he had a successful career, Trace Adkins’ wife filed for divorce after 16 years of marriage. The separation was initially difficult. However, the estranged couple has reportedly worked out their differences in the best interest of their children.
