Rick Santorum To Drop Out Of Presidential Race [Live Video]

Rick Santorum is ending is presidential campaign.

The Washington Post reports that Santorum called Mitt Romney Tuesday morning to inform him that he will be suspending his campaign. Santorum is scheduled to make the official announcement this afternoon at a press conference in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, at 2 p.m. EST.

Santorum has been Mitt Romney’s main competitor for the GOP nomination but suffered three defeats last week in Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Santorum’s daughter Bella was also hospitalized last week which may have influenced Santorum’s decision to drop out of the race.

The Post reports that Mitt Romney is practically guaranteed the nomination now that Rick Santorum is out of the race. Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul are still in the campaign but both candidates have fallen far behind Santorum and Romney.

Republican leaders have slowly been throwing their support behind Mitt Romney who now has about 60% of the delegates he needs for the nomination. John McCain, Marco Rubio, and George W.H. Bush have all endorsed Mitt Romney in the last few weeks.
