Doctor commits suicide after charges with child pornography

Retired Surgeon, 69, Commits Suicide After Arrested For Trying To Develop Pictures Of Child Porn At Costco

A retired surgeon in Naples, Florida, committed suicide after being arrested and under scrutiny for developing pictures of child pornography at Costco, according to Naples Daily News.

On Thursday June 4, 69-year-old Freddy Herbert Koenig – who is originally from Peru and a former cardiovascular surgeon — walked into a Costco on Naples Boulevard with plans of printing out pictures of a young girl performing a sexual act.

He was seen by employees with a memory card in his hand and placed it in the machine, awaiting for the pictures to develop. However, once the pictures processed, an employee noticed the pornographic photos and immediately alerted a Costco manager.

The manager informed Koenig that the obscene pictures were in violation of Costco policy and the Collier County police would have to be notified. Once police arrived, the former physician left the store and tried to leave the scene.

Koenig didn’t get too far, though. He was arrested in the parking lot on child pornography charges.

Investigators viewed the pictures of the young girl in the photos and concluded that she could be someone he met in Peru. But the police are still investigating and trying to discover who the girl is. A police spokesperson said the Collier County police are working close with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the investigation.

After Koenig appeared in court the following day, he made bail. His arraignment was scheduled for June 29.

Just five days after he made bail, Koenig was found dead in his home. It was concluded the following day that Koenig committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest.

He left a note for his family and friends, but further details about the note has not been released to the public.

Before his suicide, the former doctor was facing “six counts of a felony charge for possessing obscene photos of children performing sex acts,” and could have possibly served time in prison.
