Amanda Bynes DUI Arrest: ‘Was Not Drunk’ According To Father

Amanda Bynes, who starred in such hit TV series as The Amanda Show and All That, was recently arrested for driving under the influence after the Nickelodeon star supposedly clipped a sheriff’s cruiser while attempting to pass. In regards to the incident, Amanda’s father Rick Bynes told PEOPLE:

“She [Amanda Bynes] was not drunk. I was told that she blew a zero on the Breathalyzer. She didn’t have a single drink that night. My daughter doesn’t drink.”

According to Rick, the officer who arrested his daughter was the one who was at fault as he pulled out in front of his daughter’s vehicle as she was making a turn at a West Hollywood intersection. Contrary to popular misconceptions regarding the arrest, Mr. Bynes said that his daughter was not impaired and that she was arrested because:

“She [Amanda] was upset and very emotional.”

Rick also claims that Amanda’s release did not require bail. The 26-year-old actress was released with a citation and will be required to appear in court at a later date which has yet to be scheduled.

The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station website indicates that when when an offense pertains to drugs or alcohol, the suspect will be required to “stay at the sheriff’s station until he or she can safely care for himself or herself.”

Amanda’s father, Rick Bynes, was a dentist by day and a stand-up comedian by night when the young actor was born. The young actress, singer, and fashion designer was named the fifth highest paid celebrity under 21 by Forbes back in 2007.
