Jack Huston Walks Out On ‘The Crow’ Remake Due To ‘Scheduling Issues’ – Who Will Lead The Show?

After losing Luke Evans, who was to play Eric Draven in The Crow, Relativity is once again searching for a new actor to star in its remake. Jack Huston of Boardwalk Empire fame too, has reportedly stepped back citing “scheduling issues.”

A remake of Alex Proyas’ 1994 classic, based on the comic by James O’Barr, The Crow has once again found itself in jeopardy. After Bradley Cooper refused the lead role four years ago, Mark Wahlberg, James McAvoy, and Channing Tatum decided they didn’t want to associate with the remake.

When Luke Evans walked out, allegedly to pursue other projects recently, the studio managed to get Jack Huston on board to replace him. However, recent reports indicate that Huston has refused to work, saying he was forced to decline because of scheduling issues. Interestingly, while the actor has been tight lipped about which other projects forced him to walk away from The Crow, rumor mills suggest Huston is quite busy with the remake of Ben-Hur spearheaded by Timur Bekmambetov.

The departure of Huston from The Crow was confirmed by none other than the director of the movie, Corin Hardy,

“Jack Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on The Crow. The Crow is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.”

While this may mean that The Crow is now without a lead actor, it appears the creative team already has two possible actors who might be ideal for the role that was initially portrayed by Brandon Lee. Reports indicate Relativity is keen to cast either Nicholas Hoult or Jack O’Connell. Hoult recently shot to fame following his brilliant performances in the X-Men movies as well as Mad Max: Fury Road.

The Crow is an unusual movie with a dark theme that’s oddly connected to the music world. It follows a rock star who returns from the dead with the help of a mystical bird to avenge not just his own murder, but that of his fiancée as well.

With the revival of The Crow slated for a 2016 release, the team is scrambling to find a worthy replacement to Jack Huston. Fortunately, though Huston has walked away, Forest Whitaker has confirmed he will take part in the reboot, right after his current project, The Story of Your Life, winds up.
