Former Buccaneer Jeff Gooch Arrested For DUI

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Jeff Gooch was arrested for suspicion of DUI, the Tampa Tribune reports. Early Sunday morning at 2:33 a.m., Gooch, a resident of Spring Hill, was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol troopers on the Veterans Expressway in Hillsborough County. Gooch refused to take a blood alcohol content test, according to authorities.

Gooch, 40-years-old, is currently the Vice President of Football Operations for the Tampa Bay Storm Arena Football Team under former Buccaneer teammate Derrick Brooks. Gooch has been an executive with the Storm for four years. He played as a linebacker in the NFL for 10 years for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions.

The following short statement was released by Derrick Brooks of the Tampa Bay Storm regarding Gooch’s DUI arrest, noting the organization is still gathering information.

“We are aware of the situation that occurred earlier this morning and are still gathering information. We have no further comment at this time.”

Jeff Gooch’s DUI arrest comes less than a month after Storm assistant coach Chris Hovan was arrested for DUI. He had spent a decade in the NFL, the last five years with the Bucs. He had also played for the Minnesota Vikings and the St. Louis Rams. Chris Hovan, former Bucs defensive tackle, was arrested for DUI by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the same county Gooch was arrested in, at 9:04 p.m. on May 15. Hovan also refused to take a blood alcohol test according to his arrest report.

Hovan struck a red Ford Explorer while driving a black Ford F-350, causing $2,000 in damages. He “emitted the odor of an alcoholic beverage, had red/glossy eyes, slurred speech and dry mouth” the arresting officer noted. There was an eight-year-old boy in Hovan’s vehicle at the time of the incident. After being arrested, Hovan would not submit to a blood alcohol test. He was later released after posting a $1,000 cash bond.

Former NFL players being arrested for suspicion of DUI is nothing new. As the Inquisitr previously reported, ex-NFL star receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested for DUI on May 4 this year, which was his second DUI in the past five years. Edwards spent 10 years in the NFL playing for the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.

Eight hours after being arrested for a DUI, the ex-NFL star Jeff Gooch was released on $500 cash bond around 11 a.m. Sunday morning. What do you think will happen to Gooch after his DUI arrest?
