‘Game Of Thrones’: Leaked Teaser Video Or Just A Very Clever Hoax? We Guess It’s A Hoax

It seems someone has gotten their hands on the “previously on” teaser video for HBO’s Game of Thrones. The video would normally be played before each new episode to recap what has previously happened – sometimes over just he course of an episode, and sometimes as far back as Season 1 if it is pertinent to the upcoming Game of Thrones episode. The following Game of Thrones video was leaked via a German cable website called Sky, according to Vanity Fair. And if the Season 5 woes of leaked episodes continues, this video may just be the deal deal.

WARNING: As per normal, proceed with extreme caution, spoilers abound in this article. Check out this article on why Cersei would make a terrible dinner guest if you don’t want spoilers, but do want Game of Thrones articles.

But this is why it’s probably a fake:

  • There appears to be a lot of backstory with this Game of Thrones teaser. Some of it seems relevant to the previous episode or so and some of it not at all. For example, the Dorne story seems completely reasonable since HBO has followed it heavily in the last few episodes and it is likely to lead up to a cliffhanger story line in Episode 10 of Game of Thrones (entitled Mother’s Mercy). However, following that clip is the current Cersei (Lena Headey) storyline blended in with the small snippet of the Frankenstein storyline we got teased with at the end of Season 4, which seems quite disjointed. Why would that story line even come to the forefront again when we all know Cersei will be doing her much anticipated walk of shame in Episode 10 of Game of Thrones. Unless her Frankenstein creation somehow arrives on the scene and wreaks havoc?
  • Benjen (Joseph Mawle). The whole point of this “leaked” Game of Thrones teaser seems to be the advent of Benjen’s return. While, in the books, Benjen hasn’t returned, it is more than possible HBO could change his storyline to whatever they want considering some of the major changes they have made to plots in this season of Game of Thrones. However, the footage used is spliced in such a way to imply Benjen’s horse has just returned. This isn’t the case. Benjen’s horse returned back in Season 1. So it seems this section has been cleverly edited to create the illusion Benjen would return in the Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones. However, if Benjen were to return, it could very well tie in with Jon Snow’s (Kit Harrington) lineage mystery. After all, Benjen Stark is the younger brother of Jon’s father, Eddard Stack (Sean Bean) and purportedly knows the identity of Jon Snow’s mother. So Benjen’s return in the Season 5 finale could be a major game changer.
  • It’s the Season 5 finale, what better way for internet trolls to have their fun than to create fake Game of Thrones Season 5 finale teasers using spliced footage from previous episodes and seasons of Game of Thrones?
  • The person who posted this video on YouTube claims this video is true because it appears on the German cable network, Sky. Which it does (although it does restrict regions such as Australia from viewing the video), however, HBO does not have this video on their website. So, it’s possible HBO and Game of Thrones has been a victim of leaked footage again in Season 5, it’s not really likely as they have tightened their preview episode viewing system for media outlets.
