Former Power Ranger Skylar Deleon gets death sentence

Former Power Ranger Skylar Deleon has been given the death penalty for his part in the murder of Thomas and Jackie Hawks in 2004.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank F. Fasel told the jury that the horror of the crime outweighed defense contentions that Deleon was abused as a child before they handed down the sentence.

Since being arrested, Deleon attempted to cut his penis off, then in a later interview claimed that he wanted to be a woman, despite “not being attracted to men.” His lawyer claimed that his desire for a sex change was the motivating factor behind his crimes.

The death penalty sentence may be subject to an appeal.
