Edward Meiggs: Massage Therapist Accused Of Rape And Sexual Harassment Has Too Many Skeletons To Fit In A Closet

Edward Meiggs, massage therapist and “doctor of Vitalism” from Evansville, Indiana, plead not guilty to three counts of rape. Meiggs was arrested on May 6 after police were informed by Deaconess Hospital that a 23-year-old girl showed up at the hospital for a sexual assault examination according to the Courier Press.

The woman stated that she had purchased a discount massage from Groupon for Evansville Metaphysic where Meiggs works. Towards the end of the massage the young lady stated the 41-year-old massage therapist started touching her in what she thought was an inappropriate manner. She asked him to stop. He did not, and then he went on to perform sex acts on her.

The story only gets worse from here. As it turns out, some of Meiggs’ ex-employees were not at all surprised. Karen Warner spoke to Tristate claiming she was continually harassed by Edward Meiggs during her employment. Some of her accusations against the masseuse are downright creepy.

“I wasn’t surprised that it happened. I’m surprised it was a client. I feel like I was going to be the victim and I got out of there and so did [my] co-worker.”

Warner at the time was training to take on clients, and Meiggs would have her practice on him. Needless to say, his methods of teaching were unorthodox by anyone’s standards.

“Everything was very physical, very creepy and I was very distraught. You start on the foot. His towel comes off again. He’s holding himself, groping himself. He said it wouldn’t be so bad if [he] had meditated and masturbated. Every time I worked on him, he was naked. Every time I worked on him he was erect. He said, ‘well, maybe I can work on you.’ It was just really creepy.”

Warner stated that during these “training sessions” Meiggs would make her touch him in inappropriate areas he deemed “pressure points.”

“He said there are acupressure points that you’re going to need to know. He suggested that I do the ones by his rectum and by his private parts. He would have no clothes on and hold his [genitalia] right beside my leg. It was like he was trying to get me to react.”

Edward Meiggs had presented himself to the public as a doctor. According to his resume he received his doctorate of Vitalism and a Naturopathic degree from the Institute of Vitalism. NBC 14 News looked into the school, and the address is in fact an UPS box in Des Moines, Iowa. Meiggs has an active LPN license in Indiana, but there is no Ph.D. license on file.

Edward Meiggs, massage therapist and self-appointed Ph.D., looks to have held his last appointment for a long time regardless of the outcome of his trial? What punishment would you hand down on the doctor of Vitalism?
