‘Fear The Walking Dead’: New Poster, New Characters, New Zombie, Same Infection

First up, let’s unroll the new artwork for AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. Not only do we have a grungy new logo for Fear the Walking Dead, but we also get a new poster, which you can check out below.

The Fear the Walking Dead promotional poster is creepy and very “old school horror,” however, it pales a little in comparison to some of The Walking Dead promotional posters. After all, who can forget Rick Grimes running along a deserted road or riding his horse into the derelict city? But these are the early days in the Fear the Walking Dead branding department, so only time will tell how the overall feel of the program will end up.

Along with a new promotional poster for Fear the Walking Dead, we also have a new character announcement. According to Deadline, Colman Domingo will be joining the cast of Fear the Walking Dead. There is absolutely no news beyond this announcement though. It is unclear who he will play or how long he will be with Fear the Walking Dead (which currently has a two season guarantee). At yet, IMDb.com hasn’t even added his name to the Fear the Walking Dead cast list. Which is surprising because since the last cast member announcement of Sandrine Holt, there has been a plethora of names added to the cast list. Many of these are only listed for one episode, so it is presumable that these new characters are all expendable in order to get the Fear the Walking Dead story told.

Among these expendables include plenty of high school students and staff as well as many people from the medical and law enforcement fields. Added to the mix, we also have the very first listed walker! Sean Quezada, who you might know from the TV series Mann and Wife and Kingdom, has been listed as a “zombie” for the pilot episode. Something else interesting to note about the cast list on IMDb for Fear the Walking Dead is that only two characters get a credit for Season 2. Daniel (played by Rubén Blades) and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) are listed for seven episodes so far, whereas the other main cast are only listed for six episodes. While this may be ominous, it could also just mean that AMC might dedicate an episode her and there to just a small group of characters, like they do in The Walking Dead.

But what about the infection?

While it seems we will not get the origin story for the infection that caused the zombies in The Walking Dead, fans may still get some sort of explanation as to the infection. Robert Kirkman recently spoke to EW and explained that the people in LA would learn about the infection in a radically different way to how people learned about everyone being infected in The Walking Dead. However, while the two shows are separate, they will still exist within the same universe, so the rules that apply for The Walking Dead will also apply in Fear the Walking Dead.

“Everything that happens in Fear The Walking Dead is in the same universe as The Walking Dead. So any rule that we find out and anything they see in the early days is definitely something that was happening in the past of the other show. These two shows are very intertwined in the same world, even if their characters aren’t necessarily going to interact because of geographical distances. So yeah, anything that you learn from Fear the Walking Dead will apply to the mythology of The Walking Dead and vice versa. So you are going to get to see that the characters learn that they’re all infected in a much different way. But all the rules do apply and are the same. That will be some of the fun if you’re watching both shows.”
