Wedding Dress Donated By Mystery Man Along With Love Note About Late Wife Goes Viral, Ignites Bidding War On eBay

A charity shop in England was on the receiving end of a very special donation recently. A branch of a charity shop that supports St. Gemma’s Hospice — which provides much needed medical care for cancer patients, as well as those suffering from other terminal illnesses — was given a beautiful, vintage wedding dress, along with a moving love note pinned to it. In their search for the mystery man who donated the wedding dress and penned the heart-warming note St. Gemma’s, and the dress itself, have found viral fame.

“I wish any lady who takes this dress to have a life with her loved one, 56 years like I did, happy years. I was a lucky man to marry a lady like mine.”

On Wednesday, staff at the shop took to Facebook in order to find the gentleman who donated his late wife’s wedding dress.

“Desperately seeking the kind gentleman who donated this one-off classic vintage wedding dress to our Garforth bridal and occasion wear charity shop. If you have any details please contact us,” the Facebook post reads.

By Thursday morning, the mystery man had been found, and though he told the shop that he wished to remain anonymous, he is “overwhelmed” by the all of the attention.

“We have news! We have found the kind gentleman who donated the beautiful vintage wedding dress to St Gemma’s Hospice this week. He is over the moon that we are giving somebody the opportunity to buy the gorgeous gown on eBay. He is a big fan of St Gemma’s Hospice and is overwhelmed with the International attention that his late wife’s dress is generating. He is so happy and proud that the Hospice will benefit from funds raised by the auction of the dress. He wishes to remain anonymous and we fully respect his decision but he is watching the media frenzy with interest and thinks it is wonderful. We have thanked him so much for his kindness and he would like to thank everyone for their support.”

In order to capitalize off of the viral fame the wedding dress has received, St. Gemma’s Hospice Charity Shop has decided the best course of action is to auction the dress off on eBay. The auction, which will end on June 19, has sparked a bidding war that has the wedding dress at £7,738.12 (almost $12,000 USD) already.

The wedding dress and love note attached are a wonderful gift, and memorial from a loving husband to a charity that no doubt appreciates the gift it has received, and needs the funds it will generate.
