‘Orange Is The New Black’ Stars Taryn Manning And Alysia Reiner Talk Season 3

Taryn Manning has enjoyed quite a bit of success in her role as Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Doggett on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black. The actress, who is known for playing smaller roles throughout her career, became a series regular on the hit prison drama after Season 1, and has since become a staple on the show.

While the series is getting ready for the release of its third season, Manning recently sat down with HNGN and talked about her role in the series and what fans can expect in the coming season.

On landing the role and playing a character like Pennsatucky, Manning revealed that it has offered her a nice break from her real life personality.

“Oh yeah, it’s totally fun. I love playing unapologetic or non-humble characters. In real life, I’m really shy and pretty quiet, so that’s how I get to be a total a-hole.”

Concerning the coming season, Manning kept the spoilers to a minimum. “I can’t spoil anything! To me, the writing keeps getting better and the characters are being fleshed out and developed,” she stated. “People will come and go, but that’s jail — it’s ever-changing.”

When asked about Season 4, which is currently in production, Manning said, “Honestly, they’re so private about the show that they won’t even tell us exactly when we start shooting. The whole thing is on lockdown. Secrecy is a pretty big rule. We don’t see scripts in advance and won’t until we start shooting.”

Manning’s Orange Is The New Black costar, Alysia Reiner, who plays Natalie Figueroa on the show, recently sat down with Netflix Life and discussed what’s ahead for her character on the women’s prison drama.

The end of Season 2 saw Fig’s reign as the executive assistant to the Warden at Litchfield end. When asked how Fig deals with losing her job and moving forward with her life, Reiner stated: “I would say Fig is a fighter. That’s a big thing I would say, and she would not let much get her down.”

Fig has certainly made her share of mistakes over the course of the first two seasons of the show. However, Reiner doesn’t believe she is willing to admit she’s done anything wrong. “I think she’s a woman, or maybe I should say ‘girl’ because it’s a pretty immature quality, but she’s not a girl who takes responsibility for herself. So, I think when things go wrong, she blames the world.”

Although Reiner didn’t reveal any more about what to expect for her character in the new season, she did discuss how great it has been to be a part of a show like “Orange Is the New Black.”

” ‘The best part … I don’t even know,’ she stated. ‘Getting to play this rich, complex, amazingly genuine character that is so unlike anything I’ve played before and so unlike myself. And, the love for it. It is such a gift, as an actor, to be on something so beloved, and watched and appreciated.’ “

Season 3 of Orange Is the New Black premieres on Netflix on June 12.
