Seattle Mariners Rumors: Nelson Cruz Injury Update Could Worry Mariners Fans

Rumors are flying regarding the Seattle Mariners’ Nelson Cruz and the injury that took place June 9. Cruz was at the plate for the Mariners in the top of the fifth inning when it appeared that he was suffering some discomfort. He took another swing during the at-bat, and Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon had seen enough. The trainers removed him from the game as a precautionary measure and revealed more information after the game. As reported by MLB.com, Cruz was dealing with back spasms that were making it hard for him to take a breath.

After the game, McClendon relayed the information he had learned from the trainers. The possible good news here for Seattle Mariners fans, is that he will only be listed as day-to-day. This means he could be back in the lineup later in the week, limiting the number of games that the Mariners might be without their cleanup hitter. McClendon tried to put a positive spin on it when speaking with reporters.

“Was told he’s OK. Had some tightness in his back. Did some treatments on it, and he feels much better, loosened up… A little bit too fidgety for me in that at-bat. I didn’t like it, and I just pulled the trigger and got him out of there… There’s nothing too serious. I didn’t want to take a chance.”

To say that the Mariners would be in trouble if Cruz were out for a while is a huge understatement, especially with Robinson Cano struggling so much. Through 57 games this season, Cruz has a.329 batting average, 18 home runs, 39 RBIs, and 33 runs scored. He is certainly in line to make the 2015 MLB All-Star Game and possibly in the race to win an MLB MVP Award. There are a lot of games left in the season for that to be decided, though, so right now the team just needs to get him back on the field.

As previously reported on the Inquisitr, Nelson Cruz was actually leading the early voting to start the MLB All-Star Game. Cruz could become the first designated hitter since Edgar Martinez to represent the Mariners at the game. In the latest voting, though, he has fallen behind Kendrys Morales of the Kansas City Royals, suggesting that Mariners fans need to get out and vote to get their player the nod.

The Seattle Mariners are obviously going to take this Nelson Cruz injury slowly, especially with how important he is to the offense. Until he can get back in the lineup, though, the pressure is on Robinson Cano to step up in a big way and put this team on a course for the MLB postseason again.
