New ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Reboot Photos Revealed! But The Original Bubbles, Tara Strong, Feels Betrayed

It was recently revealed that Cartoon Network would be rebooting the beloved Powerpuff Girls cartoon show, bringing back the super-young superheroes Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. The first official photos related to the Powerpuff Girls reboot have been released, featuring the faces of the voice actresses playing the trio.

According to Us Magazine, a new set of The Powerpuff Girls episodes is set to release on Cartoon Network in 2016. But instead of rehiring the same voice actors, who were all adults, the show runners have decided to bring on some much younger talent. You can see all three actresses and the Powerpuff Girls they play in the photo below.

Amanda Leighton will be playing Blossom, Kristen Li will portray Bubbles, and Natalie Palamides is Buttercup. Despite an all new lineup of Powerpuff Girls, Tom Kenny will be returning to reprise his role as the clueless mayor.

Many fans are excited about The Powerpuff Girls reboot, and so are the people creating the show.

“It has been wonderful to see this new show team bring such passion and positive creative spirit to this iconic property,” said Cartoon Network Chief Content Officer Rob Sorcher. “We know that fans of every age will appreciate this new take on saving the world before bedtime.”

But not everyone is thrilled with the reboot. One of the original voice actors claims she feels betrayed by the decision to hire new voices. According to the AV Club, the actress who played Bubbles in the original show, Tara Strong, called the recasting a “stab in the heart.” Strong sent out the following tweet with a link to the Cartoon Network casting announcement.

The original Bubbles made it clear that she wasn’t angry with the newly hired actresses, but she clarified that she and the rest of the original Powerpuff Girls were heartbroken that the network never even considered them for the parts.

What do you think? Should the original actresses have been called back to reprise their roles in The Powerpuff Girls reboot? Or should the new talent be given a chance?
