‘Mockingjay Part 2’: First Trailer Released, Fans #Unite As Katniss Takes On The Capitol [WATCH]

The first full Mockingjay Part 2 trailer hit the internet today, and Hunger Games fans most likely have it on repeat as they take in the action. Stars of Mockingjay Part 2, the final installment of the Hunger Games series, have been teasing fans on social media for the past week posting pictures with today’s date, June 9, 2015.

The Hunger Games series has been known for using unusual tactics in promoting the films, last year utilizing a partnership with Samsung to promote the third film in the series, Mockingjay Part 1. Fans are undoubtedly thrilled their emotions aren’t being toyed with this time around as they prepare for the very emotionally charged Mockingjay Part 2.

Hunger Games‘ series producer Nina Jacobson posted a picture on Twitter several days ago depicting a final shoot for Mockingjay Part 2. It’s said that Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence was waiting for the summer weather in order to shoot the epilogue of the film. Lawrence also tweeted to indicate that his vision for Mockingjay Part 2 was complete.

Mockingjay Part 2 is the final installment of the Hunger Games film series. Based on the trilogy by Suzanne Collins, the series follows a female teenage heroine by the name of Katniss Everdeen as she goes from being a pawn in a dystopian government’s televised game to the death to become the leader of a revolution.

Mockingjay Part 2 brings back the talents of Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman. It also stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as Katniss’ competing love interests.

Though many fans criticized the splitting of trilogy’s shortest novel, Mockingjay, into two separate movies, all films in the series have done extraordinarily well in the box office, crossing the $1 billion mark. Mockingjay Part 1 was the lowest grossing film so far of the series, taking in a little over $300 million at the box office. Though competition to be the top money earner this year will be fierce with The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, typically, the final movie of a film series tends to be one of the highest grossing films of the set, meaning Mockingjay Part 2 has some heavy performance expectations.

While promotion of Mockingjay Part 2 has so far included a teaser trailer, some portraits, a website encouraging fans to register, and “#unite”, and a few limited pictures from the set, today’s full trailer release is likely to get fans pumped up for the film’s premiere five months from now.
