Instagram For Android: One Million Downloads In Less Than 24 Hours

Instagram for Android hit the virtual shelves of Google Play yesterday and has already been downloaded more than a million times.

Instagram, which was named the iPhone App of the Year, made its Android debut yesterday. The company opened up pre-registration on March 24th which helped boost its numbers during its debut. According to CNET, Instagram for android was downloaded by 2,000 people every minute after its release.

Instagram writes on Google Play:

“A beautiful way to share your world. It’s fast, free and fun! ??Pick from one of several gorgeous filtered effects to breathe a new life into your mobile photos. Transform everyday moments into works of art you’ll want to share with friends and family.??”

CBS reports that the Androiid app is still far behind its iPhone counterpart. The iPhone version gathered 5 million users in its first six months and now has more than 30 million users. If people continue to download the Android app 2000 a minute it will take Androd about a week to reach that mark.

But that’s a pretty quick pace to maintain but Google CEO Larry Page said that it’s at least possible. There are currently 250 million active devices and approximately 700,000 new devices are being activated day.
