Seattle Seahawks Rumors: Bruce Irvin Wants To Stay In Seattle After All

Seattle Seahawks rumors again address defensive end, Bruce Irvin. Irvin wants to stay in Seattle, at least that is what he is saying now, contradicting earlier statements that made it seem like he wanted out of town. A report from NBC Sports on Sunday (June 7) provides a specific quote from Irvin that shines some positive light on him, as well. Rather than sounding like a guy that is just in it for the money, Irvin is actually starting to sound like he is back on the same page as head coach Pete Carroll.

“I have one year left. I would love to be in Seattle. That was the team that gave me a chance when nobody else did. A lot of people told me I wasn’t a first-round pick, but Pete [Carroll] and [General Manager] John Schneider took a chance on me, so like I said I would love to be there, but I’m just going to go out here, I’ve been working my butt off, I’m going to go out here and have the biggest year of my career next year.”

As previously reported on the Inquisitr, the Seattle Seahawks declined to pick up an option that Bruce Irvin had for the 2016 NFL season. It means that the 2015 NFL season is the last under his rookie contract, giving him every incentive to have a huge year and head into free agency as a top defensive player. At that point, he could certainly sign with the Atlanta Falcons as it had been rumored, but it is also possible that if he has a lot of success that the Seahawks won’t want to let him get away. Putting up some big numbers in the 2015 NFL season could convince Pete Carroll and John Schneider that it is worth keeping him.

In 2014, Irvin played in 15 games for the Seahawks, notching 6.5 sacks, three pass deflections, two interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns. It may have been his best season on defense for Seattle, even though he did have eight sacks during the 2012 NFL season. Irvin added two more sacks in the postseason, including one on Tom Brady in the Super Bowl. Though seemingly volatile at times, he has become an important part of the defense for the Seahawks.

With what seems like an attitude change with the press taking place, it’s possible that the agent for Bruce Irvin talked with him about fixing his image. A lot of NFL fans were left with a negative view of him after the tussle that took place at the end of the last Super Bowl. After an offseason of appearing in many Seattle Seahawks rumors, maybe he is ready to put in the work to help lead the team to a third-straight Super Bowl. The Seahawks need him to play big, and that might lead to a nice contract offer in the next NFL offseason.
