Amanda Seyfried Tricks Fans Into Thinking She Chopped Off Her Hair

Amanda Seyfried shared a photo on Instagram last week that led her followers to believe she’d chopped off her signature long locks, but it appears to have actually been a wig, perhaps worn for her first stage role in The Way We Get By.

Seyfried has long been known for her straight, long, blonde hair, rarely changing it unless a role calls for it. However, she still fooled fans and the media with her recent photo, which showed her with a short, swept-to-the-side style. The color appeared to be the same as her own, which may have been what threw people off.

The illusion was quickly broken when Amanda appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and played a rousing game of Catchphrase with Jimmy, Marlon Wayans, and Jason Derulo, as she showed up with her hair intact.

Seyfried recently sought counseling for an issue with anxiety attacks, which became so bad that she took to drinking to calm herself down. The actress admitted to David Letterman during an interview that she had been taking shots before coming onto the show in order to keep her nerves in check. She later said that she regretted it.

“It made it fun for me, but then I watched it and was like ‘That is not what I want to promote about myself,” said Amanda.

In fact, Seyfried said recently that her anxiety led her to seek out a role onstage as she wanted to challenge herself when it came time to perform in front of a live audience.

“I’ve been looking for a play for about five years. I really wanted to get out of this zone that I’ve been in for so long, feeling lazy as an actor. I wanted to fight this fear that I have of being onstage, all the anxiety I have in general of live audiences,” she said.

As far as the Instagram photo goes, Amanda got over 30,000 likes for the wig, but it doesn’t look like she’s going to change her look for real anytime soon. The image-sharing site has been a big part of her life, however, and even had a hand in her relationship with Justin Long. She said in an interview with Vogue that she was inspired to talk to him because of a hilarious picture he posted, and the rest is history.

“It was a beautiful picture of a snail, and the caption said, ‘F—ing MOOOOOOOOVE.’ It made me laugh out loud, so I texted him,” Amanda Seyfried said.
