Woman Allegedly Placed Ex-Boyfriend’s Puppy In Hot Oven, Killing It

Kinny Redmon of the 200 block of South Country Fair Drive, Champaign, Illinois, did the unimaginable: she put her ex-boyfriend’s three-month-old pit bull puppy in a 300-degree oven and killed it. Appropriately, she faces charges of animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals — both felony charges — and is being held on $250,000 bond, according to FOX News Channel 32. She was also ordered to have no contact with her ex-boyfriend or his house. Her next court date is June 11.

Redmon and the 31-year-old owner of the tortured puppy used to date, but broke up about six months ago. They also had a child together. Prior to this incident, the man still let Redmon stay at his house in the 800 block of East Water Street in Urbana. He left the house early for work that day and the puppy was in a crate. Redmon was not there.

The man missed three calls on his cell phone while at work that morning. He indicated that Redmon didn’t have a cell phone but would use public phones, such as that in the emergency department at Carle Hospital, which is where the calls to the man originated. Urbana police investigator Dave Smysor said that the woman called him back again and said the following before hanging up, according to the News-Gazette.

“Go get yo’ puppy out the oven, (expletive).”

The man returned home to a stench in his house. He found the puppy dead in the oven. A chair was pushed up against the oven door, apparently so that the puppy could not escape its torturous death.

A neighbor, who the man questioned, had not seen anyone, and the man then walked to the police station to report what happened. Officer Jeff Steinberg went to Carle Hospital to retrieve surveillance video to determine when Redmon may have made the calls. They then arrested her outside the emergency room. Redmon refused to talk about what happened to the puppy. Smysor stated that the dog’s owner indicated that Redmon suffers from mental issues.

State’s Attorney Julia Rietz said Redmon’s child is staying with relatives. The Department of Children and Family Services has begun an investigation. The Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Larson asked for a $1 million bond for Redmon, noting the “extreme cruelty and depravity” of the alleged act and because of past, when she did not report to her parole officer or get required counseling for a disorderly conduct charge in March. The Assistant Public Defender Dave Appleman argued for a lower bond, as Redmon is pregnant with another child and stays with her parents sometimes, and the judge gave the reduced $250,000 bond.

What do you think Redmon’s sentence should be? Should her mental health be taken into consideration? Please leave your comments below.

Another family’s dog suffered horrific abuse, recently. A senior beagle named Libby was in her own back yard when she was beheaded. The family had let their three dogs out into their fenced back yard as usual. Unfortunately, when they went to look for Libby, a friend of the family found just her lifeless corpse, with no head, according to an article in the Inquisitr.
