Zac Efron Hates Being Called A ‘Heartthrob’

Zac Efron, 24, broke into the world of acting, and the hearts of many young girls, when he starred in the popular High School Musical, as well as acting in Charlie St. Cloud and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, hates being called a heartthrob.

He appeared on CBS’ Sunday Morning, and declared that:

“I can’t explain to you what it’s like to be a heartthrob, [because] I don’t think I am a heartthrob. I hate [that word]. I hate it. It follows you around, but you don’t deserve it. It’s like, ‘Why?'”

This is not the first time he has made a comment about hating being sought after for his looks. In 2009 he stated that, “You can’t enjoy it or celebrate it; it’s not a real thing…the face on the lunchbox and sh***– you can’t share that with your friends.”

He is perhaps one of the few guys in their mid twenties, actors or not, who does not want to achieve “heartthrob” status. The actor went on to say that, “‘I’m just me. I’m just Zac. Just Zac.”

Well, “Just Zac” Efron, after his breakout in High School Musical, became a poster boy for teen girls–and some 20 somethings as well. I’m sure even mothers will agree that Zac is an attractive man.

Among his hate of the term “heartthrob,” Zac also commented that he frequently checks his pockets for inappropriate things, especially after a rather embarrassing incident where he accidentally dropped a packet of condoms on the red carpet at the premiere of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.

Zac Efron’s next film, The Lucky One, is set to premiere on April 20th.
