Collecting Stanley Cup trophies in 2012/13 and 2009/10, Chicago appears to be on the verge of creating a certified NHL dynasty if they can get past the Lightning this time around. But the Blackhawks say they aren’t thinking that way.

“I don’t really use that word,” veteran Chicago winger Patrick Sharp said Monday. “I just know I’ve been on a good team for a long time. Going back 10 years, Duncs [Duncan Keith], Seabs [Brent Seabrook] and I got started in Chicago, and we’re kind of the last remaining ones from those dark days.”

Sharp played on the 2006/06 team that managed to win 26 games. Less than a decade later, he and the Blackhawks stand four wins away from a third Stanley Cup — and sixth overall for the franchise founded in 1926, as one of the NHL’s “Original Six” teams.

In fact, Chicago will be the fourth Original Six team that Tampa Bay has faced in the NHL playoffs this year — the first time that has ever happened — getting past the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers before their meeting tonight with Chicago.

The Blackhawks and Lightning split the two games they played in the regular season, each winning a home game. But while Tampa Bay scored a 4-0 shutout at Amalie Arena, back at United Center, Chicago needed to go to a shootout to put away the Lightning 3-2.

The series pits the NHL’s two top offenses, so fan of high-scoring hockey should find themselves by this year’s Stanley Cup Final. While most experts give the Blackhawks have picked the Blackhawks as slight favorites to become the first team since the imposition of the NHL salary cap to claim three Stanley Cups.
